I am using the book from Tim Baker called Live it Loud
It is a devotional for teens, I guess this is good for you.
They are 2 ways of reading these devotional. You may pick it up and read a couple of pages from anywhere in the devotions. Or you can start at the beginning and read the devotionals in order, one a day.
If you do that for a few days, you'll begin to notice the following pattern :
Day 1 : This day introduce a topic and usually asks you to write down your own ideas about it after reflecting on Scripture.
Day 2-5 : These days take different angles to help you understand more abut the topic.
Day 6 : This day gives you a situation you might encounter and ask you to try to apply what you've learned through the week to the topic
Day 7 : The last day of the week you get to do a simple activity that helps illustrate the them for the week.
It doesn't really matter how you use this book. Do whatever works for you. But before you start, here's a little advice about having devotions.
1. Find a good time. You've got to read God's Word when you're most awake and alert. Some people are awake at 6:30 A.M., and they're firing on all their cylinders. Truth is, not everyone is like that. If you aren't alert in the morning, don't have devos then. Think about when you're most alert, and give God your time when he'll get you at your best.
2. Learn your own way. You're not a copy. Everyone doesn't learn the same way or in the same environment. Do your friends tell you they read the Bible before they go to bed? Give some thought to the best place for you to read God's Word. Find a place where you'll be able to focus
3. Pray. People talk a lot about how important it is to have prayer after devotions. Truth is, prayer at the beginning is important too. Before you open God's Word, remember to ask Him to guide your mind to what He wants you to learn.
4. Mark where you've been. Always keep a pencil hand. Keep one in your Bible. As you read through God's Word, mark things you think are interesting. If you do that, you'll know where you've been, and over time you'll create some valuable notes in your Bible.
The most important thing about devotions is simply that you have them. it's a tough discipline to keep a schedule of reading God's Word! This will help you stay consistent in your devotional life and will challenge you to live God's Word without fear.
God bless you in your journey through your devotional and in you walk with Christ.
